First Trip Together

Let's begin this story way back. Chris and me were on a lot of travels together. Our traditional tours every year only began in 2011 when we first went to Poland with some friends.

We went to a place called Władysławowo, which is at the Baltic Sea up in the north of Poland, near Gdańsk.

How did we find out about that place? Well, we knew we wanted to go to the Baltic Sea and we've been to the German side many times before. So we were looking for cheap alternatives in our neighboring country Poland.

Getting there was easy enough, although I had some complications early on arriving in Poland. My ID was lost and my passport was invalid just a few days before the trip to Poland. A guy in military clothing greeted us at a train station, demanded any kind of identification, and there I am getting my first fine in another country. He let me travel the country anyway and we were quickly back on track. Funny though that he wanted IDs from me and my friend Vu Ninh but not from Chris and his girlfriend at the time.

The camping site where we slept for a few days was good enough for us. Enough space for our tents, not loud in the night time, clean enough to enjoy the views. But as you can see in the picture on the left, a lot of cars kind of screw up the image of the nice sunset.

We went to the beach a few times and in the evening we explored the small town of Władysławowo. At the beach, people with bags of food and drinks would go around and try to sell you stuff. An older lady we thought was quite funny, sang what she had all the time. "Popcorn, nachose... nachose, popcorn!" All the videos from that trip, you can find right here by the way and sorry for the bad quality, we didn't think of bringing a nice camera with us and I had this shitty mobile phone only.

We tried to eat some Polish dishes but there weren't many in that place. It was kind of like a touristy village for Polish people. Anyway, we had some gofry (waffles) and zapiekanka... well, me, I had zapiekanka and I told Chris and the others to try it too but they "weren't hungry..." Zapiekanka are pretty damn nice. It's basically just a baguette with some toppings put in the oven. But it was a great option next to burgers, fries, and kebabs.

We also headed a bit south to Gdańsk and had a great day in that beautiful city. We've been to the historic district where you will find a great market and old buildings that sadly had to be rebuilt after WWII. Some street musicians did their thing with any sort of furniture and kitchen things, like these guys. Now, there also was a honey stand that would sell all sorts of different flavors of honey. Everyone bought a can except for me... Yeah, that was karma thinking, you had the zapiekanka, now you won't get that sweet honey. Bad decision right there as Chris and the others told me that the honey was pretty nice as well.

Going back home, we were waiting at train stations a lot. At this one station the announcer called out which trains were going on which platform and all. Saying this, we only heard the word "spooky" multiple times, which is why I had to record that.

All in all, it was a nice little and cheap trip to the Baltic Sea in Poland. We were thinking about travelling to the Baltic Sea again, and definitely in Poland. The people there are very nice and some of them even understand German, which makes it so easy to go around places.
